Most devices including "Internet of things" items can be registered onto the network following the instructions posted at Connecting a device that does not have a web browser. Note that some IoT devices are known to have issues connecting to the Stanford Network and are currently considered an unsupported device.
We recommend that you register these devices following the instructions at: https://stutech-help.stanford.edu/hc/en-us/articles/202861824-Connecting-a-device-that-does-not-have-a-web-browser
The "Internet of things" (IoT) is a term used to describe the inter-networking of "connected devices" and "smart devices” (source). Stanford University does not explicitly ban any type of device(s) from connecting to the network, so long as that device does not disrupt or jeopardize the network for anyone else.
However, as many “IoT” devices are still primarily experimental, there is no guarantee that any/every device brought onto campus can be successfully connected. If you have any difficulty registering your IoT device(s), please Submit a Request for assistance.
