Do I get a static or dynamic IP address?

Once your registration is processed, your computer is assigned a dynamic IP address with a very long DHCP lease—so it is functionally a static IP address. This means that even if your network connection is set to obtain an IP address from the campus DHCP server, you will always be given the same IP address, as long as you are in your primary residence.

If you have a laptop and are not using the network in the residence where you registered, you will be given a roaming IP address which is different from your "static" IP address.
