Date of event: Friday, April 13, 2018

Effected residences: EV 89

Summary report: University IT will be replacing the power strip in the telecom closet of EV Bldg 89 this Friday morning, between 9am-12noon. This will cause a network outage (both wired and wireless) of about 10 mins while our switch and the wireless access points powered by it boot up. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Date of event: March 30, 2018:

Effected residences: EV 68-72, 76-81, 83, 86, 91.

Summary report: This Friday we will be replacing the optical transceivers for the last remaining "low-rise" EV buildings that currently only have 100mbps feeds, using special SFPs cable of bringing gigabit-over-multimode fiber over long distances. For any buildings where the distance back to the Hulme distro is too great, we will opt for dual 100mbps redundant uplinks. Assuming no particular physical issues with the existing fiber infrastructure, there will be less than 10 minutes of downtime per building for both wired and wireless connectivity.
