Officially, VPTL Student Technology does not support Stanford Summer Conferences or their attendees. Sometimes we get inquiries anyway. As far has how Conference attendees get online, there are three options available to them, of which we have zero involvement aside from providing the following information:
Conference attendees have three options available to get their devices online*:
Option 1: The "Stanford Visitor" network. Connecting your device to Stanford Visitor will bring up a Terms of Service page- Conference attendees can accept the Terms of Service which will give them Internet access for about 4-5 hours at a time. After that, they'll need to accept the terms again. As a "visitor" network, bandwidth and some Internet services are limited.
Option 2: The "Stanford Residences" network. When connected to Stanford Residences, Conference attendees can click to register, then click the big blue Conferences button, then click through the next screen, and this will provide network access until 3:33 AM the following day. Essentially this means they'll need to repeat this process once a day. There are no bandwidth restrictions using this option.
Option 3: A Conference group representative can coordinate with Stanford Conferences to have attendee devices pre-registered for the Stanford Residences network during their stay at Stanford. There may be a fee involved but since that happens without our ("Student Technology") department involvement, we do not have insight into that process.
*(Stanford Conferences is responsible for giving this information to the conferences they support which is why there is no documentation posted)
