- iprequest.stanford.edu is a good place to start on any device. The user may be automatically taken to the registration dialog, or they may have to open a web browser and input ‘iprequest.stanford.edu’ to start the process.
- The wired and wireless adapters for any one device will need to be registered in two separate steps, unless the user manually registers the devices as follows in item 3.
- If a device is unable to access this page, the user may attempt to manually register the device from another computer that already has network access by visiting iprequest.stanford.edu and selecting ‘New Registration’ and then inputting the MAC/hardware address of the wired or wireless adapter of the device they wish to register.
- This same interface at iprequest.stanford.edu may be used to report a list of currently registered devices, and users may update this information to add a secondary network adapter (e.g., wired to an existing wireless registration). There are also optional settings for firewall and removal of registered devices.
- Computers may have encryption requirements based upon student staff classification. Users will receive email notifications from MyDevices regarding their encryption compliance if there is a discrepancy with their registered devices. You can ask the user to check their status at https://mydevices.stanford.edu/
- SNRT (Stanford Network Registration Tool) should handle encryption during initial network registration, if needed.
- A second option is to encrypt with SWDE (Stanford Whole Disk Encryption) utility.
- Eduroam SSID is an alternative to bringing your device into compliance for computers that can’t run SNRT or encrypt, etc.
- Mobile devices may also be required to be encrypted for some users. These users will also receive email notifications from MyDevices regarding their encryption compliance if there is a discrepancy with their registered devices. Again, ask the user to check their status at https://mydevices.stanford.edu/
- Stanford MDM (Mobile Device Management) is required to be installed on the device for these users to access networks other than Eduroam SSID.
